Realtor Training - What you wont get

Although I do recommend agent training and mentoring there's not substitute for character. If you don't have it there's no hope for sustainable success. You might get some money but you won't keep it. In fact the money will put a spotlight right on your character flaws. Greed, power or mismanagement will surely bring you down. Can God trust you with $100 to do the right thing? Can God trust that you'll treat people good even if you don't need them? If He can trust us in the small things He'll trust us with the big things.

What a tedious process buying a house can be. The emotional exhaustion just seems unreal and reaching a point of wanting to walk away seems inevitable. As my house hunting journey unfolded, I knew that having a steady source of knowledge, guidance, and support was essential. This is what Marcus consistently provided. In Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping point, he described three types of people needed to make phenomenal change happen: Mavens, Connectors, and Salesmen. How fortunate for me that Marcus embodied all three of these change agents. He was a Maven that provided me with all of the information necessary to buy my home. In that realm, he was also a detailed listener as he paid attention to what I wanted in a home. He was a Connector because he was a great resource for the business people I needed in the process from a mortgage broker to a home inspector. Last, he was a Salesman in that he had a good sense of the housing market, understood what I was looking for, and negotiated to get me the best deal. His most impressive quality was efficiency. Believe me, when you're in the midst of the hurry-and-wait, quick-changing, unnerving house buying process, being able to quickly reach your realtor to have a question answered, or get information or reassurance is priceless. Overall, his facilitation of this process was invaluable. I knew when I spoke to him a year before I officially began my house search that I liked his relate-able, patient & professional manner. Marcus, I am so grateful for all of your guidance and diligent hard work in finding my wonderful first home! Quite simply, I thank you!

The first thing I appreciate about the help you provided is your patience. It took a loooong time to find the house, and at times we would go across Maryland, from Clinton to Germantown, and look at up to 15 homes. Through it all, you were very patient and would even challenge me to take a more thorough evaluation of my decisions rather than rush me into a house to close a deal.

I also appreciate your knowledge of the market. I was given an explanation of all of our options and the latest on new programs immediately in order to take advantage of them. I heard about realtor's who didn't even want to touch the NSP deals, but you quickly educated yourself on it and helped me to do what was necessary to take advantage of it. And finally, the paperless system. That made the process of making offers and doing extensions really easy. Now---I've been thinking and it's difficult for me to choose the ONE thing you did that I appreciate the MOST. So, I'll list a few and let you choose. If you need me to elaborate, I'll gladly do that.

-As a first time homebuyer, I was really nervous and had a LOT of questions. Some of those questions I know I asked you more than once. But you were very patient and calmly and completely answered ALL my questions. Whenever something was not clear to me, you explained in terms that were easy for me to understand. That really put me at ease.

-You were accessible. I could call on you anytime and, if you were not available at that moment, you returned each call and email as soon as you were available. You were never rude to me or made me feel I was intruding. Not even when I'd call you on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon after I found a property that looked interesting and wanted more information on it.

-I always felt that you genuinely had my best interest at heart. If a property didn't look quite right to you or a seller said something that didn't sit right with you, you let me know about it. You let me know if a house looked like it wouldn't pass HPAP inspection and wisely advised me to move on.

-If I had bad feelings about a home we visited and they were valid to me but not always crystal clear to you, you didn't try to talk me into ignoring my feelings. You encouraged me to consider the possibilities but you never tried to push me into purchasing. You said, "Buying a home is an emotional decision. If this isn't the one, we'll keep looking."

Marcus, there's so much more. I could go on and on. I hope this helps and, in some way, depicts the blessing you have been to me. If you need more or anything else, don't hesitate. -Karen Beasley

I found your seminar really worthwhile attending. What struck me most was that when I asked a question, I got an honest response, and when the facilitators didn't know the answer, they knew where to look up the information and get back to us about it. One of the great aspects was that there was an attorney present to give answers "from a legal point of view". Lastly, the handouts were clear and concise--really helpful and not something to put away in a binder forever and always.
